Satoshi Takamatsu is the world’s only professional photographer and private astronaut. He studied physics at the University of Tsukuba. He started his career at Dentsu, Japan’s largest advertising agency. His acclaimed projects include a Pocari Sweat commercial filmed on the International Space Station in 2001—the first advertising spot filmed in the International Space Station—and a commercial for Nissin Cup Noodles, also filmed on the ISS. His work in advertising has been recognized with the industry’s highest awards, including Gold at Cannes, the London International Awards, and the Art Directors’ Club of New York Awards. In 2015 he launched Space Films, a film production company focusing on commercial projects in collaboration with national space agencies. Overview Experience expresses his conviction that seeing Earth as if from space, in a more real, more immediate form than ever before, will give all of us a new, heightened understanding of our place in the universe and our lives together. To this end, Satoshi proposes to become the first professional photographer to travel to space and to share images of Earth with all humankind. This is the culmination of his life’s work.
