Heenam Choi is a global fellow at Milken Institute and chairman of the board of directors at Standard Chartered Bank Korea. He was most recently a visiting fellow at the Korea Capital Market Institute, and prior to that served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of the Korea Investment Corporation (KIC) since March of 2018. He served as an ambassador for financial cooperation during 2020 and 2021. Before joining KIC, Mr. Choi served as Executive Director at the International Monetary Fund, representing 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific region. He was previously the Executive Director of the Asian Pacific Constituency at the World Bank Group. Mr. Choi brings more than 30 years of experience at Korea’s Ministry of Strategy and Finance, where he has served as Deputy Minister for International Affairs, Director General of International Finance, Director General of International Financial Cooperation, Director of the International Finance Division and Director of the Foreign Exchange Market Division. Earlier in his career, Mr. Choi was Assistant Secretary to the President for Finance and Economic Affairs at the President’s Office. He has worked at the IMF as an Alternate Executive Director (2011) and at the World Bank as an Advisor (1999-2003). Mr. Choi earned a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pittsburgh. He had an MBA in finance and a BA in economics from Hanyang University in Korea.
