Allan directs health work at The Pew Charitable Trusts, a nonprofit research and policy organization, overseeing initiatives related to substance use prevention and treatment, antimicrobial resistance, health IT, food safety, drug innovation, healthcare products and population health. Prior to joining Pew, he practiced as a clinical pharmacist in oncology at the Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, and served as a senior medical writer with the journal publisher Adis International Ltd. He also worked as a health and science reporter for WBUR, Boston’s National Public Radio news station, and at Radio New Zealand. He serves on the board of the Reagan Udall Foundation for the Food and Drug Administration. He is a graduate of the University of Manitoba and completed his hospital pharmacy residency at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre.
