David Mongeau is Executive Director of the Berkeley Institute for Data Science (BIDS). In scope of this position, David leads data science research fellowships and programs for predoctoral and postdoctoral scholars who are preparing for careers in academia and industry. Earlier this year, he worked with Johnson & Johnson and UC Health to launch a program that integrates data science and biomedical sciences to find new healthcare solutions. A distinguishing feature of BIDS programs is integration of research experiences, data science methods and tools training, and peer learning in a shared environment. Previously, David led the data analytics institute at The Ohio State University. In the last three years, he has been a contributor to a major data science workforce development study by BHEF and PwC and has been invited by the NYC Task Force on Data Science, an NSF Big Data Hub, and the National Bureau of Statistics – China to share data science talent development strategies. David spent his earlier career with Bell Labs. While his career track has favored science, his degrees from Carnegie Mellon University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Purdue University are in the humanities and business.
