Gemma Peters is the Chief Executive of Macmillan Cancer Support, the leading cancer care charity in the United Kingdom and one of the country’s most loved charities. In 2023, the organisation reached and supported an estimated 2.3 million people living with cancer through its specialist cancer information, healthcare professionals and services. With over 20 years of experience in leadership roles across the UK’s charity, health and higher education sectors, Gemma has led ground breaking initiatives in cancer research, care and clinical best practice. Since joining Macmillan in January 2023, Gemma has catalysed the collaborative development of a new organisational strategy, preparing the organisation to ensure that everyone living with cancer in the UK gets the best possible care today, while sparking a revolution in cancer care for the future. Gemma is passionate about addressing health inequities and working closely with people with lived experience to co-create solutions to the challenges they’re facing. Gemma has led the organisation to ensure that people with cancer – especially those from marginalised groups – are central to determining how Macmillan has the greatest possible impact. Before joining Macmillan, Gemma was Chief Executive at Blood Cancer UK for over five years, where she led the organisation through the coronavirus pandemic, and Executive Director at King’s College London and King’s Health Partners. Gemma is an advocate for the rights of women and girls, and lives in South London with her family.
