Sandra Brooks

Sandra E. Brooks, MD, MBA, FACOG, is the chief executive officer of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Brooks, a Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha graduate of Howard University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Howard University College of Medicine, completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in gynecologic oncology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Following her extensive training, Dr. Brooks entered clinical practice at the University of Massachusetts. She then accepted the role of director of the division of gynecologic oncology at the University of Maryland, where she served for 10 years, attaining the rank of full professor. In addition to clinical practice, teaching, and mentoring trainees, she also conducted research focused on health services and cancer disparities. During that time she completed a master of business administration in medical services management at Johns Hopkins University and played active roles in national-level organizations focused on cancer prevention, medical training, and clinical trials.
