Gabe Gutierrez is an NBC News correspondent based in New York. He focuses primarily on domestic breaking news and reports for all of the network’s platforms, including “TODAY,” “NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt,” MSNBC, and NBCNews.com. After joining NBC News in 2012, Gutierrez was based in Atlanta for several years but covered major stories around the world. He was part of the “NBC Nightly News” team that earned an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University award for its coverage of the 2013 tornado that tore through Moore, Oklahoma. Since then, he’s reported on historic floods, wildfires, riots, and mass murders. He’s also covered a slew of high-profile police-involved shootings, including those that drew national attention in Ferguson, North Charleston, Baton Rouge, and Charlotte. In 2016, he was among the first reporters on the scene of the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando — and weeks later, the targeted killing of five officers in Dallas. During the 2016 presidential campaign, he joined NBC’s political team covering the Republican primaries. In 2017, he reported from Charlottesville, Virginia, after a deadly white nationalist rally. Then, he covered back-to-back-to-back hurricanes: Harvey in Texas; Irma in Florida; and Maria in Puerto Rico. His reporting on Hurricane Maria’s devastating aftermath was featured in “Powerless,” an NBC Nightly Film that was among the network’s most-viewed digital documentaries of the year. Internationally, Gutierrez has reported on terrorist attacks in London, Paris, and Brussels.
