Dr. Jeremiah “Jeremy” William Schwarz has served as Chief of Staff and now General Counsel
and Senior Advisor to Miami Mayor Francis X. Suarez, where he has overseen the design,
development and execution of the Miami Forever agenda and has served as a co-founder of
Venture Miami, which leverages climate-adaptive technology and policies to drive economic
growth, invest in climate-adaptive infrastructure, and massively expand Miami’s high-tech
economy. Inspired by Tom Brokaw’s The Greatest Generation, he joined the United States Navy.
Jeremy was assigned to Florida as an officer in the United States Navy, where he was forward deployed to the Persian Gulf and the Horn of Africa under Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has been a resident of Florida for nearly twenty years and a lifetime member of Leadership Florida. He
received his BA from Fordham University, where he was named a Truman Scholar; a Ph.D. from
Cambridge University, where he was a Gates Scholar; and a JD from Harvard Law School, where he was a GI Bill-Yellow Ribbon Scholar and a Law Clerk to Governor Rick Scott. He has held
visiting research fellowships at Cambridge and Harvard, and previously served as an attorney with
K&L Gates, a top international law firm. As a disabled veteran, he currently also serves as chairman of the Veteran Legal Services program of the United Way of Miami, where he works to secure veterans’ access to education and support services at all levels.
