Sam is the Chief Investment Officer of the University System of Maryland Foundation – managing the Foundation’s investment team and the endowment assets of 23 higher education institutions within the State of Maryland. Sam’s prior experience includes leadership roles with financial service provider PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), investment consulting firm Ennis Knupp & Associates, and proprietary trading firm Goldenberg, Hehmeyer, and Company. Recently, Sam was named as a finalist by CIO Magazine for its 2021 Most Innovative Foundation CIO award as well as by Institutional Investor for its 2021 CIO of the Year award. Sam is a current Governor-appointed board member of the Maryland 529 College Savings plan, former board member of several not-for-profit organizations, founder and past president of the Charted Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association Washington D.C. Chapter, and an advisory board member to several investment industry forums, including the Milken Institute Global Capital Markets Advisory Council. Sam earned B.S. degrees in Accounting and Finance from the University of Illinois and an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
