Dr. Hae Joo Kim is the Assistant Chair of Professional Music at Berklee College of Music. Her research interests include the popular music and culture of South Korea, and she has presented at national and international conferences. At Berklee, she is working toward introducing K-pop and Asian/Asian American creative work in course offering and programming. Prior to joining Berklee, Professor Kim taught at CUNY (City University of New York) York College, University of Utah Asia Campus, and Stony Brook University. She is a Fulbright scholar and has also won grants and fellowships from the Korea Foundation, the Academy of Korean Studies, and the Freeman Foundation. As a Korean American, she has long been involved in the work of cultural mediation and translation and has an ongoing interest in music at the intersection of culture, identity, and community. She holds a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University.
