James Shin joined SB Projects in late 2016, tasked with forging the company footprint beyond music and to help grow the business within film and television simultaneously creating a robust slate which embraces inclusivity. Today, projects include everything from pieces in the reggaeton world to Asian-driven stories, from LGBTQIA+ romantic comedies to a show in the country rodeo space, and more. Leading with the belief and respect that craft can exist in many unique and provocative ways. Dave exemplifies this focus and is currently the most-watched comedy series for FX Networks, heading into its third season. In the season 2 premiere, Shin helped to bring K-pop star CL into the episode in what Time magazine praised as “Cross-Cultural Collaboration Done Right.” Shin and SB Projects are currently developing Neon Machine, a K-pop comedy series with Amazon Studios, Jason Kim, and Tablo. They are working on a K-pop feature film project with 20th Century Studios with Benson Lee connected to direct. Affirming that bringing new formats to American audiences is an important mission for SB Projects. Prior to SB Projects, Shin was a development executive at TriStar pictures and in 2019, he was named one of Variety Magazine’s New Leaders.
