Nancy McPherson serves as the State Director for AARP California, leading a team of staff and volunteers in advancing livable communities on behalf of AARP’s 3.3 million California members as well as others who are 50+ and their families. Previously, Nancy led similar work following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita as the State Director for AARP Louisiana. Prior to AARP, Nancy led policing initiatives for the Police Executive Research Forum in D.C. at the San Diego Police Department and served at the assistant chief level in both the Seattle and Portland Police Departments. Nancy was also an advisor to local, state, and federal leaders in the U.S., Albania, the Netherlands, and Canada, and served as a Special Master overseeing police reforms in Cincinnati as part of a federal court-appointed monitoring team. Nancy has a B.A. in Political Science from San Diego State University, a master’s degree in Public Administration from Old Dominion University, and a SPHR certification from SHRM. She is a graduate of LEAD, San Diego, Leadership Tomorrow, Seattle, and the LA Chamber’s Southern CA Leadership Network.
