Peter Beyer was first elected to the German Bundestag in 2009 and is currently serving his fourth term. He is one of Germany's most senior and experienced foreign politicians and has a special focus on transatlantic relations and the Western Balkans. Peter is a member of the Foreign Relations Committee and was Chancellor Angela Merkel's transatlantic coordinator from 2018-2022. During that same time, he served as member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Peter is a proud member of the Inter-Parliamentary Conference (IPC) and the Inter-Parliamentery Union (IPU). He also is the Executive Vice-President of the Southeast Europe Associationa and a Member of the Board of 1014, Inc. (German Academy New York), and a Commissioner of the RIAS Commission, Berlin. Peter studied law in Germany and at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, where he received his LL.M. He has practiced in law firms on both sides of the Atlantic.
