Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe

Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe is Co-Chair of the Motsepe Foundation, one of the largest philanthropic organisations in Africa, and Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. She is a businesswoman and philanthropist who started her career in medicine. Dr. Moloi-Motsepe is a passionate advocate for sustainable development and her philanthropic work contributes to poverty alleviation with a focus on investing in STEM basic and higher education; advocating for gender equality; strengthening the capacity of social entrepreneurs, and sponsoring sports and the arts for talented youth in disadvantaged communities. As a doctor, Dr. Moloi-Motsepe established the first women's clinic in Johannesburg and received the Elizabeth Tshabalala Award for her cancer awareness efforts and pioneering work in women’s health in South Africa. Through her company African Fashion International (AFI), which she established in 2007, she is leading a social and sustainable approach to fashion with a focus on empowering Africa’s women, creatives, and other small businesses along the supply chain. For her work with African designers and disadvantaged women, she received the Franca Sozzani Award at the First Ladies Luncheon in New York. She is past President of the Cancer Association of South Africa and is now its lifetime member. She also sits on the board of Synergos, an organization dedicated to addressing global poverty and social injustice through collaboration with governments, business, and civil society, by creating sustainable systems change.
