Shelley Lyford

CEO and Chair, West Health and Gary and Mary West Foundation

Shelley Lyford serves as chief executive officer of West Health, a family of nonprofit, nonpartisan organizations that combine applied medical research, policy, advocacy, and outcomes-based grantmaking to lower healthcare costs and advance successful aging. Under her leadership, the organization has awarded over 600 grants totaling nearly $250 million. Lyford also acts as chair of the board of directors for the Gary and Mary West Foundation, the West Health Institute, and the West Health Endowment. Lyford was integral in the development of California’s Master Plan for Aging and was appointed by Governor Newsom to the Stakeholder Advisory Committee responsible for the plan’s development. She is a member of the California Commission on Aging, and in 2022, Lyford received the American Society on Aging Award for outstanding contributions to aging-related research, administration, and advocacy. The Gary and Mary West Foundation was one of the founding members of Civica Rx, the nation’s first not-for-profit generic drug company. Lyford holds leadership positions on the boards of Civica Rx, the Civica Foundation, Civica Script, the Gary and Mary West Senior Dental Center, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, and the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation. Lyford is the co-leader of the West Health Investment Committee, primary liaison with Northern Trust and Summit Rock Advisors, and a member of the Limited Partner Advisory Committee of Martis Capital.
