Byungdoo Sohn, Ph.D., is Chairman and CEO of Korea Exchange since December 2020. He has dedicated himself to public service over a long period of time and possesses profound expertise in the financial policies of Korea. He was most recently Vice Chairman of Financial Services Commission (FSC) from May 2019 to November 2020. In the FSC, he also had served as Secretary General and Standing Commissioner, after holding several Director General positions in different bureaus, including Financial Policy, Banking and Insurance, and Public Fund Oversight Committee, starting from May 2013. Before joining the FSC, Dr. Sohn spent nearly two decades working for Ministry of Strategy and Finance of Korea, where he played a pivotal role, particularly in the field of international finance, by serving as Director General of the G20 Bureau, Director of International Finance, etc. During his tenure in the public service, he also worked as a senior economist at the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development from 2003 to 2004. He received doctoral and master's degree in Economics from Brown University, and his master's degree in Public Administration and bachelor’s degree in International Economics from Seoul National University.
