Eric Gertler

Executive Chairman and CEO, U.S. News & World Report

Eric Gertler is Executive Chairman and CEO of U.S. News & World Report, where he has overall responsibility for editorial and business operations of a multifaceted digital media company that reaches almost 500 million people annually. From August 2019 through July 2021, Gertler served as Commissioner/President & CEO-designate of Empire State Development, New York State’s principal economic development agency. Gertler’s tenure was characterized by: 1) meeting unprecedented economic needs arising from Covid-19; 2) completing critical infrastructure projects (including Moynihan Train Hall); 3) attracting companies and jobs to the state; and 4) implementing economic initiatives with long term benefits (including the largest small business assistance program in state history). He had previous public service stints under multiple mayoral administrations in which he was responsible for spurring economic development by managing more than 100 initiatives and directing hundreds of millions of dollars into the economy. Prior to entering NYS government, Gertler was Executive Chairman of U.S. News from 2015 to 2019 while concurrently serving as Co-Chairman and Co-Publisher of the New York Daily News. He founded and served as CEO of several technology companies in the early 2000s. He started his career as an attorney with Skadden Arps. Gertler is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and Young President’s Organization (YPO). He is the author of the critically acclaimed book Prying Eyes: Protect Your Privacy From People Who Sell To You, Snoop on You and Steal From You.
