Jhinyoung Shin

President, Korea Capital Market Institute

Jhinyoung Shin is a President of Korea Capital Market Institute, leading policy-oriented research institution on economics and financial market in Korea while taking a leave of absence from the position of the Professor of Finance of School of Business, Yonsei University in Korea. Previously, he served as a president of Korea Corporate Governance Service, which carries out ESG evaluation, proxy advisory service and policy research on ESG issues. Professor Shin’s main areas of research and expertise cover corporate finance, corporate governance, and investment. He has provided his expertise for institutions in both public and private sectors. He has been deeply involved in the asset management of National Pension Service, one of the largest public pensions and sovereign wealth funds in the world as former chairman of Performance Evaluation and Compensation Committee. Professor Shin has served in various government committees in Financial Service Commission, Ministry of Strategy and Finance, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Financial Supervisory Service, and KOSDAQ as a chairman of Fair Disclosure Committee. Professor Shin started his academic career as an Assistant Professor of Finance in Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and he was also invited as a Visiting Senior Fellow in National Singapore University. He earned his B.A. and M.A . degree of Economics from Seoul National University, and he received Ph. D in Finance from Carnegie Mellon University in 1993 while he was a recipient of Sloan Foundation Fellowship.
