John Schellhase

Director, Center for Strategic Philanthropy, Milken Institute

John Schellhase is a director for the Center for Strategic Philanthropy at the Milken Institute, where his work focuses on environmental and social impact philanthropy. Among other work, he designs and manages projects related to catalyzing innovation to advance the Sustainable Development Goals and to improving the strategic deployment of corporate philanthropy. Based in Madrid, Spain, Schellhase is part of the Institute's growing team in Europe. Prior to his current role, Schellhase worked on capital market development in developing countries as part of the Milken Institute's Center for Financial Markets. He has also worked as an international development consultant whose clients included the World Bank, the government of Rwanda’s Capital Markets Authority, Financial Sector Deepening Africa, Vikasa Holdings LLC, and others. He holds a Master of Science in global affairs from New York University, where he focused his coursework on issues in international economic development with a regional focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Before his graduate studies, Schellhase served for two years as a US Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines.
