Jorge Familiar, a Mexican national, has over 20 years of leadership experience in economic development, finance, and corporate governance. As Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank, he leads a global team of professionals in the prudent management of debt and asset portfolios for institutions in the World Bank Group (WBG) and over 70 clients. He is responsible for capital markets operations and oversees annual funding programs of US$60 to 70 billion through bonds issued by IBRD and IDA. He also leads the World Bank Treasury’s capacity building, advisory and capital market intermediation services in financial analytics, asset management, and financial solutions for its clients. As Pension Finance Administrator of the World Bank Group, he supervises the investment and administration of the WBG pension plans with almost US$40 billion assets under management invested in a diverse pool of asset classes. Before joining the World Bank Treasury, he served in multiple roles in the World Bank Group: as a member of the Board of Executive Directors; Vice President for the Latin America and Caribbean Region; WBG Corporate Secretary; and Vice President for Finance and WBG Controller. Since January 2022, he is a Trustee at the IFRS Foundation, a public interest organization established to develop a single set of high-quality, understandable, enforceable, and globally acceptable accepted accounting and sustainability disclosure standards. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in finance from the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México with honors.
