Mariana is CEO and Cofounder of Biobot Analytics, the first company in the world to bring wastewater epidemiology to market, using cutting-edge technology to transform sewers into public health observatories, effectively using wastewater to evaluate the health of a community and how to leverage that data to improve it. Based in Cambridge, MA, the company is an MIT Innovation Lab spinoff and 2018 Y Combinator participant founded in 2017, employing just over 100. In 2022, Biobot was recognized as one of CNBC’s Disrupter 50 and one of Time Magazine’s TIME100 Most Influential Companies. Previously, Mariana was a Ph.D. She is a researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she specialized in the emerging field of wastewater-based epidemiology in the laboratory of Prof. Eric Alm in the biological engineering department.
