Pejman Ghanouni is a diagnostic radiologist with expertise in body MR imaging and is an Associate Professor of Radiology, and, by courtesy, of Neurosurgery, Urology and Gynecology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He is Interim Chief of the MRI Body Division and Director of Stanford Medicine's Minimally Invasive MR Interventional Center (MIMRIC) and of the Stanford Focused Ultrasound Center of Excellence. His research centers on the development of clinical applications of minimally invasive MR guided interventions, including high intensity focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) and cryoablation. He has led a number of clinical trials at Stanford using MRgFUS to treat essential tremor, Parkinson disease, epilepsy, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer, bone metastases, and uterine fibroids, as lead site investigator or co-director. After directing an NIH-funded clinical trial adapting MRgFUS to treat soft tissue sarcomas, he translated this research to treat desmoid tumors, helping these patients to avoid surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Winner of the Lockhart Memorial Prize from the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, Dr. Ghanouni continues to advance innovative research in minimally invasive image-guided procedures to reduce side effects and to improve patient outcomes.
