Vanessa Hauc is an Emmy award-winning journalist, anchor and director of “Planeta Tierra”, the investigative unit on environmental issues at Noticias Telemundo. A native Peruvian with a passion for social, cultural and environmental topics, Hauc has been a valuable source of information for U.S. Hispanics – reporting the news right from where it happens. From Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico to Hurricane Matthew in Haiti, Hauc has covered the story. An avid traveler, Hauc has been to Rome twice to lead a conversation between Pope Francis and children from countries affected by natural disasters. Her passion for environmental issues inspired her to create “Alerta Verde”, a segment dedicated to educating the community on the importance of protecting the planet. Hauc is the co-founder of Sachamama or “Mother Jungle,” a nonprofit organization that works to inspire, empower and educate the Latino community on climate issues and sustainable attitudes, behaviors and lifestyles. She has worked together with The Climate Reality project and former Vice President Al Gore in his global initiative “24 Hours of Reality.” In 2019, she was named one of the ten Latinos leading on climate by HuffPost and received the Environmental Voice Arts Award on behalf of the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences. In 2020, Hauc became the first climate journalist to moderate a presidential debate, highlighting climate change as one of the most important issues among Latino voters.
