Janne Gustafsson is a Senior Portfolio Manager for Structured Credit at Ilmarinen, a Finnish pension fund, specializing in both private and public market investments. Before joining Ilmarinen, he worked at Cheyne Capital Management in London. Over the course of his career, Janne has also been involved in various social, academic, and philanthropic activities. He has been the lecturer of the Investment Science course at the Aalto University in Helsinki and a visiting researcher at the London Business School. Janne has also co-founded a charity in Finland that helps young people suffering from depression and other similar disorders get work in the areas of IT, media, movie, and game industries, lately also focusing on the capabilities of generative AI to assist people in these areas. Janne holds a Doctor of Science in Technology degree in Systems Analysis and Operations Research (with distinction) from Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University). His dissertation committee consisted of foremost professors from the US, including Prof. Harry Markowitz, founder of modern portfolio theory. For the key paper in his dissertation, Janne won the Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences’ award for the world’s best student paper in decision analysis in 2005.
