Professor Kathryn North AC is Director of the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, Melbourne, Australia and the David Danks Professor of Child Health Research, University of Melbourne. Kathryn is a clinician-scientist, trained as a pediatrician, neurologist and geneticist. At MCRI, Kathryn leads a diverse team of over 1800 researchers with a dedicated focus to improve the health and wellbeing of children and their families. Kathryn is a national and international leader in genomic medicine and its implementation into clinical practice. She has led the Australian Genomics initiative since its inception in 2016. She is Vice Chair of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health, a collaborative network across 100 countries, focused on the responsible sharing of clinical and genomic data. She Chairs the GA4GH National Initiatives Forum, which convenes over 30 countries implementing genomics at a national scale. Kathryn is Chair of Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (UK) International Advisory Board and is a member of the International Scientific Advisory Boards of Toronto Sick Kids Research Institute and the Singapore National Precision Medicine Program. In 2019 Kathryn was awarded one of Australia’s highest honors, Companion (AC) of the Order of Australia, in recognition of her eminent service to genomic medicine.
