Robert Waldinger

Professor of Psychiatry, Harvard Medical School; Director, Harvard Study of Adult Development, Massachusetts General Hospital

Robert Waldinger is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and Zen priest. He is Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and directs the Harvard Study of Adult Development, one of the longest-running studies of adult life ever done. The Study has tracked the lives of 724 families for over 85 years and currently studies the Baby Boomer 2nd generation to understand how childhood experience reaches across decades to affect health and wellbeing in adulthood. He directs a teaching program in psychotherapy at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and he writes about what science can teach us about healthy human development. Dr. Waldinger has won numerous awards for teaching and research, and he is consistently named one of the Best Doctors in America. His TED talk on lessons from the Harvard Study is one of the 10 most viewed talks in the history of TED. He teaches Zen meditation in Newton (www.newtonzen.org) and internationally.
