Dorothy C. Kelly, CFA is the Robert B. Hardaway, Jr. Lecturer in Personal Finance at the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce. Professor Kelly teaches Personal Finance, a 3-credit elective for undergraduate students and conducts non-credit personal-finance sessions for members of the UVA community on and off UVA Grounds. Both her class and her talks focus on financial well-being and cover topics such as budgeting, credit, employee benefits, taxes, insurance, investing, portfolio allocation, lifecycle financial planning, and legacy planning. Professor Kelly is the recipient of the 2024-25 Lindgren Award from the Mead Endowment which promotes and supports UVA faculty-student engagement. In 2020, the UVA Office of Engagement named Professor Kelly a Distinguished Scholar for her contributions to alumni engagement during the early days of the COVID pandemic. Professor Kelly holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and serves as Director of the CFA® Program Partner Initiative at McIntire, assisting students interested in pursuing careers in investments and enrolling in the CFA® Program. She has an undergraduate degree in liberal arts from The Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from the UVA Darden School of Business. Her work has been published by CFA Institute and Darden Business Publishing.
