
Francis deSouza is the Chief Operating Officer at Google Cloud. Francis joined Google after three decades as an engineer, technology executive, entrepreneur, board member, and investor. Prior to Google, Francis co-founded SynthLabs, an AI alignment company with Microsoft and First Spark as investors. Francis is the former CEO of Illumina, where he led the company's growth and innovation in DNA sequencing. Prior to Illumina, he served as President at Symantec, overseeing their security and data management portfolio. He also co-founded IMlogic, an IT security company that was acquired by Symantec, and Flash Communications, an instant messaging company acquired by Microsoft, where he subsequently worked as a Product Unit Manager. He is on the Board of Directors of Deel and previously served on the Board of Directors of The Walt Disney Company and Citrix. Francis is passionate about improving life through breakthrough technological advancements. Francis graduated from MIT with Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical engineering and computer science, and a minor in economics, and was selected for the Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, and Sigma Xi honor societies.
