
Vice Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, the Chief of the Naval Staff was enlisted into the Ghana Navy in October 1987 and was commissioned as an Executive Officer in 1991. He has attended various specialized military and civil courses. Notable among the military courses are the International Midshipmen and International Sub-Lieutenant Courses at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth and School of Maritime Operations in Portsmouth, both in the UK. He attended the Junior and Senior Command Staff Courses at the Nigerian and Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff Colleges respectively. He is also a two-time graduate of the United States Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island where he pursued the Naval Staff and Naval Command courses in 2005 and 2015 respectively. He also attended the International Maritime Operations Course at the Coastguard Training Centre, Yorktown, Virginia, USA from June to September 2006. Vice Admiral Yakubu has held several appointments in the Ghana Armed Forces including the Command of 2 Warships, GNS ANZONE and GNS YAA ASANTEWAA. He was the first Executive Officer of GNS ANZONE and was part of the crew that sailed the Ship from Alaska, USA on its maiden voyage to Ghana. He has served as Director Naval Administration and later Chief Staff officer.He is an avid researcher and has authored numerous papers on Maritime security and strategy.He also Co-Authored the official history of the Ghana Navy.
