John Schellhase

Director, Milken Institute Philanthropy

John Schellhase is a director with the Strategic Philanthropy team at the Milken Institute, where his work primarily focuses on social impact philanthropy. In this role, he contributes to and manages projects related to strengthening corporate philanthropy. He also leads philanthropic research and advisory efforts related to climate-focused giving. Prior to his current role, Schellhase managed projects related to capital market development in emerging and frontier market countries as part of the Milken Institute's financial markets work. He has also worked as an international development consultant whose clients included the World Bank, the government of Rwanda’s Capital Markets Authority, and Financial Sector Deepening Africa. He holds a Master of Science in global affairs from New York University, where he focused his coursework on issues in international economic development with a regional focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Before his graduate studies, Schellhase served for two years as a US Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines. Based in Madrid, Spain, Schellhase is part of the Institute's growing team in Europe.
