
Marina Balobanova joined CalPERS in January 2024, as an Investment Officer in its Private Equity program. She oversees a $3B portfolio across funds, co investments, and separately managed accounts. Her work involves evaluating investment opportunities, monitoring portfolio performance, and aligning investment strategies with CalPERS’ overarching fiduciary and sustainability goals. Before joining CalPERS, Marina spent eighteen months at Health Innovation Capital, an early-stage pediatric healthcare venture capital firm. She contributed to sourcing, diligence, and negotiation of investment opportunities in Life Sciences, MedTech, Devices, Diagnostics, and Digital Health sectors. Previously, at Horizon Therapeutics and as a co-founder of Baseline Health, Marina cultivated a track record of strategic leadership and operational excellence. From spearheading market strategies that drove significant revenue growth to designing impactful solutions in healthcare, her experience bridges corporate operations and innovation delivery. Marina graduated Columbia Business School where she focused on alternative investments and entrepreneurship. She lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and enjoys hosting family and friends visiting from overseas. In her free time, Marina packs her skis and explores new mountain ranges.
