I’m Samuel Njuguna, the Co-Founder and CEO of Chumz, a behavioral savings and investment platform designed to help people across Africa build better financial habits. With over 300,000 users in Kenya and Rwanda, Chumz makes saving simple and engaging by using behavioral psychology and gamification—empowering individuals, including the unbanked, to grow their wealth from as little as KES 5 (USD 0.039). As CEO at Chumz, I focus on driving financial inclusion through digital innovation. I’ve had the opportunity to lead strategic partnerships with licensed fund managers, banks, telcos, and NGOs to make saving and investing accessible and trusted for everyone. Under my leadership, Chumz has launched exciting collaborations with organizations like Sanlam, Bank of Kigali, ABSA Bank and Nabo Capital, offering features such as group saving challenges and tools to help parents teach their kids about money. We’re also expanding regionally into markets like Ethiopia, Ghana, Tanzania, and South Sudan. My work spans across product design, compliance, investor engagement, and growth strategy. I’m deeply passionate about using technology to solve real-world problems and love exploring topics like behavioral economics, philosophy, anthropology, and entrepreneurship. At the heart of it all, I’m driven by the belief that everyone, regardless of income deserves a chance at financial freedom. Through Chumz, I aim to make that belief a reality, one habit and one shilling at a time.
