
Yuriy Vitrenko is a prominent Ukrainian executive and reformer with deep expertise in energy, finance, and international negotiations. He served as CEO of Naftogaz of Ukraine from 2021 to 2022, leading the country’s largest and most geopolitically significant company during a critical phase of the Russian invasion. Prior to that, he was Acting Minister of Energy of Ukraine (2020–2021) and held key executive roles at Naftogaz from 2014 to 2020.Among his achievements at Naftogaz are his leadership in historic international arbitration cases against Gazprom, involving claims exceeding $100 billion—the largest commercial arbitration in the world—and his successful negotiations with President Putin, which resulted in Russia paying $5 billion in damages and signing a new multibillion-dollar gas transit agreement. Yuriy also led efforts to eliminate Ukraine’s energy dependence on Russia by diversifying gas imports, investing in domestic production, and driving the creation of a competitive wholesale gas market integrated with the EU. Since stepping down from Naftogaz in late 2022 for family reasons, Yuriy has advised the Ukrainian government on sanctions against Russia, post-war reconstruction strategy, and worked with private investors in Ukraine. He is also developing an AI-driven InvestmentTech venture. Earlier in his career, Yuriy worked in investment banking (AYA Capital and Merrill Lynch in London), private equity (Amstar Europe) and management consulting (PricewaterhouseCoopers). Yuriy holds an MBA from INSEAD.
