Gerardo Esquivel has a B.A. in Economics from UNAM, a M.A. in Economics from El Colegio de México and a PhD in Economics from Harvard University. He is currently Professor-Researcher at El Colegio de México and teaches at the Faculty of Economics at UNAM. He is a Level III National Researcher. He previously worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Institute for International Development and was the Tinker Visiting Professor at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. He has also served as a Visiting Researcher at the IMF and as a consultant for the World Bank, the IDB, ECLAC and the United Nations Development Program. He has written articles on a wide range of economic topics and is one of the most cited Mexican economists in academic literature. Dr. Esquivel was Deputy Governor of Banco de México from January 2019 to December 2022. Gerardo Esquivel has received various distinctions for his research and participates regularly in public debate in print and electronic media.
