Sergio Mendez is Managing Director, BlackRock Country Head of Mexico and member of the Latin America Regional Executive Committee. Mr. Mendez joined BlackRock in 2020. Prior joining BlackRock, Sergio acted as CIO for Afore XXI Banorte (the largest Mexican pension fund with more than US$35B in AUM), position he held since 2016. During the same period, Sergio also served as the head of the investment committee for the Mexican Association of Pension Funds. Prior joining Afore XXI Banorte in 2016, Mr. Mendez served for four years as CIO for Santander Asset Management (SAM), where he managed 69 mutual funds and led its SMA business. From 2008 and until 2012, Mr. Mendez was Chief Investment Officer of Afore XXI Prudential. Previously he served as CIO of Prudential Financial Mexico, CEO of Nafinsa Securities in NY, Trading Vice president in Inverlat Securites in NY and Operadora de Bolsa Serfin in Mexico. Mr. Mendez has a BA degree in economics from Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (ITAM) and is fluent in English and Spanish.
