Prof Molly M Stevens is a leader in the development of smart biomaterials with applications in regenerative medicine and biosensing. Her innovations in the biosensing space have led to the design of ultrasensitive point of care tests that can be coupled with mobile phone technologies. Prof Stevens graduated with a First-Class Honours BPharm degree, a PhD in single molecule biophysics and after postdoctoral research at the Langer group at MIT, she joined Imperial College London as a lecturer in 2004. She was promoted to Professor in 2008 -one of the youngest in the history of the institution. She holds numerous leadership positions including Vice-chair of Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Early Detection Committee, Director of the UK Regenerative Medicine Platform Smart Materials Hub, Deputy Director of the EPSRC IRC in Early-Warning Sensing Systems for Infectious Diseases and President of the Royal Society of Chemistry Division of Materials Chemistry. She is Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and one of the youngest ever Foreign Members of the National Academy of Engineering. Her group has been recognised by over 20 international awards as well as a listing in The Times as one of the top 10 scientists under 40.
