Mr. Nazym Azimbayev currently serves as Deputy CEO, Chief Investment Officer and Member of the Executive Board at the National Investment Corporation of the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NIC). NIC is Kazakhstan’s sovereign wealth fund, which was established with a mission to preserve and enhance the long-term purchasing power of Kazakhstan’s foreign exchange reserves through investments in alternative assets. He has more than 8 years of investing experience, with an extensive background in developed markets. As Senior Portfolio Manager at the National Bank Mr. Azimbayev managed the Global Fixed Income portfolio of Kazakhstan’s International Reserves, which were more than $100 billion in assets under management. Mr. Azimbayev joined NIC in February 2016 from the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange, where he was Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer. Mr. Azimbayev received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Applied Mathematics and Informatics from Lomonosov Moscow State University, where he is currently a PhD candidate in Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics. He is also a graduate of a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professional program in risk management.
