Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe

Co-Chair, The Motsepe Foundation

Dr. Precious Moloi-Motsepe is a businesswoman and philanthropist who started her career in medicine. As a medical doctor, she specialized in women's health and established the first women's clinic in Johannesburg, during which she received the Elizabeth Tshabalala Award for her work. She scaled down her medical practice to steer the Motsepe Foundation, which she and her husband started in 1999. The Motsepe Foundation aims to reduce poverty by focusing on education (in particular STEM fields) among other various programs and initiatives, including a women's agenda. In 2013, the Motsepe's became the first couple to join the Giving Pledge to scale up philanthropy and embark on community and societal development initiatives. She founded her company AFI in order to raise the profile of African designers, and to contribute to the commercial success of fashion and creative designers from Africa in the global fashion landscape. She has recently been awarded the Fashion 4 Development Franca Sozzani Award for her work in propelling African designers during the UN General Assembly in New York. She is also the recipient of numerous awards. She lives in Johannesburg with her family and loves travelling, reading and being in nature.
