Samuel Njuguna is CEO and Co-founder of Chumz, a Kenyan savings and investment platform designed to build better financial habits. Chumz uses behavioral psychology and gamification to guide users on how and when to save based on their lifestyle and spending patterns. Chumz proud to be recognized as Kenya’s top savings app, and recently expanded with a soft launch in Rwanda. Before Chumz, Njuguna led a company that developed alternative credit scoring engines across Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Ghana, and Haiti. Despite scaling successfully, the company faced setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenging funding period that followed. Njuguna's entrepreneurial journey began with Chura, a company specializing in electronic airtime distribution. Chura was recognized by Ericsson as one of Africa’s most impactful companies, particularly in urban areas where people often manage multiple SIM cards. Njuguna holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Nairobi, and is passionate about behavioral psychology, a theme that shapes Chumz’s approach to financial wellness. Njuguna's favorite book, Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl, resonates with him deeply, as does the quote, “Hope anchors the soul.”A highlight in Njuguna's career was securing authorization from the Capital Markets Authority, enabling Chumz to serve over 200,000 users and promote financial inclusion across Kenya.
