Dr. Upal Basu Roy, PhD, MS, MPH is Executive Director of Research at the LUNGevity Foundation, a lung cancer research and patient advocacy non-profit. Within the Translational Science Research Program, Upal guides the award administration and peer review of lung cancer translational research grants aimed at improving lung cancer outcomes via early detection and improved treatment options. Within the Patient-Focused Research Center, he designs, implements, and manages all phases of research studies that seek to understand the lung cancer patient experience and identify unmet needs in education and access to care. Upal has spearheaded several multi-sectoral research projects that aim to increase access to lung cancer screening, biomarker testing, and clinical trials for lung cancer patients. A Senior Research Associate at Health Equity Initiative since 2012 and a Board Member since 2015, Dr. Basu Roy is extremely passionate about health equity. He has been involved in several research projects aimed at addressing health disparities in infectious and non-communicable diseases. Upal firmly believes that the health equity movement is a continuum that ranges from activities focused on individuals to those spanning communities, organizations, and policy makers. Upal has an MPH in Global Health Policy and Management from New York University, an MS in Microbiology from Mumbai, India, and a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology from the University of Arizona, Tucson.
