Brendan Hanlon

Chief Financial Officer, City and County of Denver, Colorado

Brendan Hanlon is the Chief Financial Officer for the City and County of Denver. As CFO, Hanlon oversees the City's Treasury, Controller's Office, Assessor, Budget and Management, Real Estate, Capital Planning and Programming, Peak Academy, and Cash, Risk and Capital Funding functions. The Department of Finance includes more than 430 staff who oversee the city's full financial and accounting responsibilities. Under Hanlon's leadership, Denver has issued General Obligation Bonds, Revenue Bond and Certificates of Participation exceeding $3.5 billion while maintaining a GO bond rating of AAA from all 3 major rating agencies; is implementing the city's first participatory budgeting process; and helped establish the city’s first affordable housing fund in 2017 and doubled its investment in 2019 to $33 million annually. Hanlon holds a Bachelor’s degree in both history and political science and Master’s degree with a concentration in public budgeting from the University of Connecticut.
