Charles W. Scharf is chief executive officer and president, and a member of the Board of Directors of Wells Fargo & Company. A financial services veteran with 24 years of leadership experience, Charlie served as CEO of Bank of New York Mellon from 2017 to 2019. He also was CEO and a director of Visa from 2012 to 2016. At Bank of New York Mellon, Charlie demonstrated a strong track record in leading change and innovating amid a rapidly evolving digital landscape. At Visa, Charlie partnered with leading technology companies to drive new payment experiences and improve payment system security. Previously, he was a managing director of One Equity Partners at JPMorgan Chase & Co. and CEO of Retail Financial Services at JPMorgan Chase. He was CEO of the retail division of Bank One Corp., and held a number of chief financial officer roles. Charlie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from New York University. He is a director of Microsoft, serves on the board of trustees of Johns Hopkins University, is a member of The Business Council, and is chairman of the New York City Ballet.
