Lisa Lewis
Lisa Lewis has built her career over twenty-five years in biomedical research, from bench to beside and from academia to the pharmaceutical industry. She is passionate about health equity, inclusive research, and responsible innovation. She has held leadership and consulting roles in clinical development, medical affairs, clinical operations and other functions, at companies including Johnson & Johnson, Novartis Oncology, Celgene, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Flatiron Health, The Medicines Company, AstraZeneca, G1 Therapeutics, Allergan and Immunocore. She started her career as a Research Technologist in the Hematopoiesis Research Laboratory at the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology - Mount Sinai Hospital/Icahn School of Medicine and Northwell Health. Early in her career, Lisa managed pediatric hematology/oncology cooperative group clinical trials at The Mount Sinai Hospital and had the privilege of working directly with cancer patients, clinical trial participants, families and caregivers as the Research Manager at Queens Medical Associates Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (Northwell Health) in Fresh Meadows, NY. She also served as a Research Associate at The New York Academy of Medicine for the Center for Adherence Support Evaluation (CASE).
Most recently, Lisa was the Director, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Clinical Trials (DEICT) – Oncology at Johnson & Johnson (J&J) Innovative Medicine, where she led the DEICT Oncology team and collaborated with senior leaders and global functional teams across clinical development, medical affairs, regulatory affairs, patient advocacy and patient engagement. During her tenure at J&J, Lisa partnered with the VP of Oncology Late Development, Medical Affairs and Diagnostics as co-lead for the Oncology Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) in Clinical Trials internal Steering Committee and led a 280+ employee Oncology D&I in Clinical Trials Community of Practice. Lisa served as a member of the J&J Bioethics Committee and co-lead of the J&J/Janssen Oncology DEI Council. Lisa was a key driver, for J&J Oncology collaborations to drive equity in oncology care and clinical research, including the Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) Diversity in Early Development Clinical Trials Program, and the Navigating Patients Across the Care and Treatment Continuum program with the American Cancer Society; these initiatives were featured in the White House Cancer Moonshot Progress Update.
Lisa is also passionate about supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs, students and leaders in life sciences and STEM. She was selected by the Social Impact team at LinkedIn as a volunteer Career Advisor in a pilot program launched by LinkedIn in partnership with the City University of New York. Lisa was an application reviewer for The Black Ambition Prize launched by Black Ambition, a non-profit initiative founded by Pharrell Williams. Lisa also participated in the Dana Farber/Harvard Cancer Center Continuing Umbrella of Research Experiences (DF/HCC CURE) Beyond Academia virtual workshop where she joined 30+ leaders to share her career journey and career advice with High School and College students. Lisa is an active member of professional organizations including The Cru - Empowered by Luminary, where she led their Healthcare, Life Sciences and STEM Cohort and is also a member of The American Society of Bioethics & Humanities, The American Society of Human Genetics, Women in Bio and The National Council of Negro Women.
Lisa holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Pre-Medicine from Stony Brook University, Master of Public Health with a concentration in Health Informatics from New York Medical College, and she is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Bioethics at The Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics. Lisa completed certificates in Leadership Development to Advance Equity in Health Care at The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and Media & Medicine – How to Tell Stories That Make a Difference under Neal Baer and Suzanne Koven at Harvard Medical School, Blavatnik Institute, Department of Global Health and Social Medicine. Lisa also completed executive education coursework in data visualization and management at New York University and The Wharton School - University of Pennsylvania.
