“The long-term impact of Smart Agri-Centers is a massive increase in incomes for farmers in rural communities. They are now able to operate their businesses for much longer hours. They're able to access energy that they couldn't access before, so they're able to start new businesses.”
— Zoe Slattery, Engineering Project Manager, Smart Agri-Centres
Smart Agri-Centres was named a finalist in October 2023 for its solar-powered community hubs that provide affordable clean energy and services to farmers. All finalists were awarded a total of $90,000 for their success in the design and semi-finalist rounds of the Milken-Motsepe Prize in Green Energy.
