AgriTech, the use of emerging technologies to help farmers become more efficient and profitable, promises to help revitalize and potentially revolutionize agriculture all over the world. AgriTech innovations can significantly increase farm yields, decrease post-harvest loss, and develop strong markets that link growers and buyers.  

In April 2021, the Milken Institute and the Motsepe Foundation partnered to launch the first in a series of innovation prize competitions. The Milken-Motsepe Prize in AgriTech was designed to bring innovations for increasing economic value for farmers—particularly for smallholder farmers—to the fore.  

This report, co-authored by the Milken Institute and World Food Programme, describes the AgriTech landscape in Africa, reviews the design of the Milken-Motsepe Prize in AgriTech, and documents some key learnings to encourage investment and collaboration to develop the sector and equitably increase food security for all.
