Fear, anxiety and social isolation brought on by the pandemic has exacerbated existing mental health challenges for people on college campuses, and created new ones as online learning expands, key rites of passage are cancelled, and social isolation continues until further notice.
Data indicates that 60% of students experience overwhelming anxiety and 40% are too depressed to function, and yet only a fraction access services on campus. How can philanthropy help students in higher education build the skills needed to cope with the crisis and its aftermath, and help faculty and staff who are on the frontlines continue to support students? This report by the Center for Strategic Philanthropy examines potential ways for philanthropists to direct their giving and ensure a generation of healthy, resilient young people.
