With a strong focus on education and discreet, affiliation-based philanthropy, Asian philanthropists are increasingly formalizing their giving and utilizing strategic tools to create a broader impact. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of cross-sector collaboration to address systemic root causes, making philanthropy in Asia more crucial than ever before.
Looking to the future, Asia holds enormous potential for philanthropy. By 2025, Asian millennials are expected to hold 35 percent of global wealth, while Asia itself is set to become the world's second-largest wealth hub by 2026. However, with just one-third of the social investors compared to Europe, there is much work to be done.
This report features exclusive interviews with five family principals from Hong Kong SAR, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore, who offer unique perspectives on local, regional, and global philanthropic initiatives. With most organizations and foundations having existed for at least a decade and four cases where the previous generation formally established the family foundation, this report provides invaluable insights into the past, present, and future of philanthropy in Asia.
