The COVID-19 pandemic has been a double-whammy for inequality: The worst-off have been hit hardest while economy-wide digitalization has only exacerbated the skills gap. This report highlights technology’s increasing impact on the workplace, providing valuable information for policymakers, business leaders, and educational institutions so they can make better decisions about how to prepare workers for the future.
Firstly, the report outlines changing attitudes towards work and skills training, including a broad shift toward remote working and hiring, a greater focus on inclusion and diversity, and increased trust in employees during remote work, albeit with increased surveillance.
Secondly, it makes several recommendations to address rising inequality and disruption, including financing access to education and skills training, strengthening business-education partnerships, and flexible time commitment.
The findings were collected using a “Future of Work” survey of 1,000 managers and employees by technology consulting firm Infosys.
